Acting

The Musical Theatre acting, voice and dance classes at PACC provide students with a solid technique in musical theatre; the training includes acting, singing and dancing. Students will develop a strong foundation of skills in movement and dance while exploring musical theatre technique, focusing on musical theatre composers through solo and group singing, and scene work from musical theatre scripts. Vocally, a two-fold approach to the vocal training with group voice which focuses on technique and "vocal coaching" which integrates voice and acting skills in the interpretation of the musical theatre song. Acting, we will explore the basics of script analysis, character building, and give the students the frame work and understanding of character objectives and tactics while developing the truth for that character.

Training for this exciting and challenging field has traditionally been piecemeal leading students to study singing, dance, and acting independently with the hope they will somehow figure out how to put them all together when the time comes. This New musical program will provide students will the tool belt and technique students can reliably access for their experience in the musical theatre genre.

PERFORMING ARTISTS WORKSHOP

Welcome to the Performing Arts Center of Connecticut's new PERFORMING ARTISTS WORKSHOP. This series meets on Mondays for 2.5 hours from September 2011 thru the end of April 2012 with a performance in our theater space on Friday, April 13, 2012.

Each week the student studies voice, acting and musical theater dance with three faculty members skilled in each area. We feel that those students wishing to perform during their school years, pre-professionally, pursuing the arts in college or professionally would ultimately benefit from this program. No matter which of these three areas is your strong suit - every performer needs to be versatile enough to do all three! Two levels: PAW #1 ages 7-11 and PAW #2 ages 12-16

We put this workshop series together in a manner that best utilizes the student's, instructor's and parents' time. Combine that with the optimum use of talent, knowledge and expertise of our faculty, with the ability to have a student work on dialogue, song and dance movement from the same shows will truly benefit and enhance the student's overall objective of becoming a "triple threat".

In December family members are invited to see firsthand what their student has learned and how and what they learn in each discipline of class by coming and observing acting, voice and musical theater dance on Monday, December 12, 2011.
