IN MOTION: PACC Performance Dance Company

The ensemble is composed of outstanding dancers selected from the center's training program, auditions and invitation. The aim of the ensemble is to provide opportunity for these dancers to experience the creative process of a performing organization while refining and expanding their technique and knowledge of our Art of Dance.

The ensemble seeks to make available to the community the widest range of quality dance through lecture-demonstrations, workshops, school, and community performances (seasons). We wish to develop a wide repertoire based on classical and contemporary ballet work, modern, jazz, hip hop, tap and ethnic dance, in order to reach everyone.

It is our goal to give each individual a greater appreciation and understanding of the Art of Dance.

Adjudication by: Pedro Ruiz Mr. Ruiz is a renowned choreographer and dancer who was born and trained in Cuba, as well as in Venezuela. In a 21-year career with Ballet Hispanico as its principal dancer, Ruiz also choreographed three critically acclaimed ballets for the company. The New York Post said of Guajira, "An especially fine work of form and structure." The New York Times gave kudos to Club Havana saying, "An explosion of sensuous pure dance." And Time Out New York glowed, "Ruiz's Cecilia furthers the notion that his pieces exhibit a timelessness." Mr. Ruiz has now set out on his own choreographing for other dance companies. Since 2005, he created Sonetos de Amor for Chicago's Luna Negra Dance Theater; premiered a new work, Mediterranea, at the Tribeca Performing Arts Center; restaged his acclaimed Guajira for Marymount Manhaatna College; as well as a collaborative piece for The Joffrey Ballet and Luna Negra entitled called San Juan. In the Fall of 2007, Ruiz will premiere Allegro con Sabor at The Harris Theatre in Chicago for The Joffrey. Recently, Ruiz was profiled nationally on the PBS program "In The Life." Upcoming in 2008, he will also be choreographing for Alvin Ailey/Fordham University BFA Program and LaGuardia High School for the Performing Arts. Mr. Ruiz is also teaching as a faculty member at Marymount College, Alvin Ailey and is on the staff of Scarsdale Ballet. Ruiz has performed at The White House for several presidents and, in 1998, he received the New York dance world's highest honor, the Bessie Award. ABOUT THE COMPANY

This pre-professional company was begun to provide performance opportunities for talented and gifted young dancers. We are very proud of the accomplishments of our dance ensemble in the past 3 years. These young dancers have been instructed by prominent dancers and choreographers from notable ballet, modern, jazz and hip hop companies. Our company members take classes from our in-house faculty, guest faculty and receive Master Classes from notable instructors in the field of dance on a monthly basis. It is our hope that during our fourth season, we will perform more frequently and achieve an even higher level of technical and performance excellence. The ensemble is available for performances, fundraisers and entertainment. Scholarships are given on both a financial and talent basis. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to contact us.

Reviews of IN MOTION:

A recent review said, "Finally, a hearty round of applause is due to "Against All Odds", a very professional local dance troupe's piece - with fine costume design and unique choreography. Their performance was remarkable in that it was not so much dancing "...as fluid, naturalist beauty." The Eagle

Christopher F. Davis, Producing Director of Dancers Responding to AIDS recently had the following to say about In Motion's performance and Nikole LaChioma's choreography, "Paranoiattack is the perfect example of what Bob Fosse would have done in the year 2006. It is the exact vocabulary established by Mr. Fosse while still looking fresh and relevant to today's taste. I've danced in 7 Broadway shows and have worked with Anne Reinking, Chita Rivera, Ben Vereen, Chris Chadman and was part of the pre-Fosse invitation only workshop- getting to work with the incomparable Gwen Verdon., I consider this to be one of the most original pieces based on the Fosse vocabulary that I have ever seen from a non professional group."

PACC and the
NEW HAVEN SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA

Our dance company, In Motion has been invited to choreograph and dance with the New Haven Symphony Orchestra for their 2009 Season at Woosley Hall and their Connecticut In-School Educational Series. We wil begin work on Copland's "Appalchian Spring" this coming Fall. This is an amazing opportunity to dance with a live orchestra and dance in an historical and beautiful venue like Woosley Hall!
